CHICAGO, Oct. 17, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Cars.com announced today the appointment of James F. Rogers as the company's chief legal officer (CLO), effective Monday, Oct. 24. Rogers most recently served as senior vice president and general counsel for Orbitz Worldwide, where he oversaw legal, compliance, corporate communications and government relations. As CLO at Cars.com, Rogers will direct all areas of legal and compliance, including legal-related aspects of strategic initiatives and acquisition-related legal and integration matters.
"We are thrilled to welcome Jim to the Cars.com family as we prepare to become an independent, publicly-traded company once we spin from TEGNA (NYSE: TGNA) in 2017," said Alex Vetter, president and chief executive officer of Cars.com. "It's an important time in the history of our company and we are confident Jim's extensive legal experience and understanding, particularly in the public company sector, will make him a tremendous addition to our leadership team as we continue to grow."
"Cars.com is an innovator and leader in the rapidly expanding digital automotive industry and I'm pleased to be joining the team," said Rogers. "I look forward to helping to navigate the opportunities presented as the company enters this new phase in its storied history."
Rogers has more than three decades of legal experience, with considerable expertise in preparing companies for initial public offerings. Prior to his time at Orbitz Worldwide, Rogers served as senior vice president and general counsel for TLC Vision, North America's leading LASIK provider, where he led a legal team in implementing corporate, tax, employment and regulatory programs and prepared the company's main business unit for a sale.
From 1981 until 2010, Rogers practiced law in the Washington, D.C., office of Latham & Watkins, where he ran a broad-based corporate practice counseling clients in the technology sector across a variety of legal and business issues. He became a corporate partner in 1988 and chaired the firm's Mid-Atlantic Emerging Company Practice Group during the last years of his tenure.
Prior to Latham & Watkins, Rogers served as a law clerk to both the Honorable Charles Clark of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and the Honorable Ruth Bader Ginsburg of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
Rogers earned his law degree from Columbia Law School, a master's degree in public administration from Princeton and a bachelor's degree in economics from Yale University. He is active in many civic and charitable causes and currently serves as a board member for The Appleseed Foundation and the Active Transportation Alliance.
