CHICAGO, Sept. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Cars.com forecasts September light, new-vehicle sales will hit 1,254,120 units, up 10.4 percent year-over-year and down 20.9 percent from August. A SAAR of 16.5 million is expected for the month, an increase of 6.7 percent from September 2013 and down 6.2 percent month-over-month. This would mark the highest September SAAR since 2006.
Retail sales remain strong, projected to make up 86.5 percent of total sales in September, up 0.6 percent from this time last year.
"New-vehicle sales continued on positive trajectory this month, with the best September sales in eight years," said Jesse Toprak, chief analyst for Cars.com, a leading car shopping site and automotive digital marketing company. "Sales were solid across the board, but the large-truck category especially shined with another stellar performance. We expect fourth quarter sales to average at least 16.5 million in SAAR, fueled by cheap financing, attractive lease offers, and perhaps the best selection of vehicles we have ever seen."
