Cars.com Teams Up With Actor Joey Lawrence to Pick Best Family Crossover Vehicle

CHICAGO, Dec. 7, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Cars.com, one of the nation's leading resources for buying and selling a car, has teamed up with Joey Lawrence, star of ABC Family's "Melissa and Joey," and his family to help determine the best overall "Crossover" vehicle under $30,000.  In conjunction with USA Today and "Motorweek," the "Family Crossover Shootout" will pit nine family crossovers in a head-to-head competition to determine which is best.  Lawrence will participate at the Cars.com Family Crossover Shootout on Saturday, December 11, 2010.

Lawrence is currently starring in the highly rated ABC Family comedy "Melissa and Joey," co-starring Melissa Joan Hart.  He also starred with Hart in "My Fake Finance," which garnered the highest ever television movie ratings for the network.  Lawrence is known for his starring role in the hit '90s series "Blossom" and the third season of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars."  Lawrence and his wife, Chandie Yawn-Nelson, have two daughters: Charleston (born 2006) and Liberty Grace (born March 2010).

The Lawrences, in conjunction with the Cars.com editors, will rate the family-friendly features of each car including ease of loading car seats in and out, driving comfort, special features, and styling.  After the day of testing, the Cars.com editors will tally up the results and announce the winning vehicle on February 1, 2011.  Following the announcement, Cars.com and Mr. Lawrence will donate the winning vehicle to the Los Angeles chapter of the March of Dimes Foundation, for which Mr. Lawrence is a California State Ambassador.

"The opinions of actual families are invaluable additions to the expert opinions of our editors," said Patrick Olsen, Cars.com editor in chief.  "Joey Lawrence is more than just a television actor -- he's also a dad with two young daughters, and like many young families, he and his wife have the same concerns about styling, comfort and convenience that other young families do.  His opinions will be terrific supplements to our own."

Vehicles being tested include:

  • 2011 Chevy Equinox
  • 2011 Kia Sportage
  • 2011 Dodge Journey
  • 2011 Nissan Rogue
  • 2011 Ford Escape
  • 2011 Subaru Forester
