Matthew Gold, Chief Strategy Officer

Matthew Gold serves as chief strategy officer for Cars.com.  In this position, Gold is responsible for the strategic direction of the company, including overall strategy, business development / strategic partnerships, and management of Cars.com’s network properties.  Working with all functions within the business, Gold’s focus is implementing consonant strategies that explore new areas for growth.


Gold joined Cars.com in 2018 from Alphabet, where he was most recently Head of Strategy & Operations for YouTube’s Emerging Markets Product Partnerships organization. In that role he helped increase penetration of YouTube into its next billion users.  Previously, he served on the leadership team for Google Consumer Surveys, where he helped build a two-sided marketplace for an emerging market research business within the Alphabet ecosystem.  Gold began his career as a consultant at McKinsey & Company, where he advised Fortune 500 companies and private equity funds on strategy, operations, and organizational design issues.  He was also a Fellow at the McKinsey Global Institute.


Gold earned a master’s in Business Administration and Juris Doctor, both with honors, from the Kellogg School of Management and the Pritzker School of Law at Northwestern University. He earned a bachelor’s degree with honors from Princeton University


In his spare time, Gold is an amateur photographer and hiker.
